Austin Bat Cave is currently looking for scientists who like kids! We are running a weeklong science fiction/science fact writing workshop for elementary/early middle-school kids over the summer and we have plenty of people good at science fiction but are woefully short on people good at science fact! If you know science-types who want to help us out as we give kids the low-down on the biology of super-strange but real animals, the physics of super heroes and cartoons, and/or natural disasters (because they’re awesome and horrible), send them our way! New Fiction ConFABulous Workshops!

Here are two photographs* of the two FABulous authors who will be in town this coming weekend as part of the APLFF New Fiction ConFAB. Their names are Heidi Julavits and Peter Orner and their work is nationally and internationally renown. They’re super nice people, and how do we know this, you might ask? Because they’ve offered to teach two FREE writing workshops for Austin Bat Cave while they’re in town. You should take them up on this fantastic offer. *Perhaps you are thinking that Heidi is much much taller than Peter. It’s possible she is, we haven’t done the due diligence to find out, but we also suspect this is an effect of the magic of the internet.

For anyone in Austin interested in great books and great movies and great discussions of great books and great movies, the Austin Bat Cave Page 2 Screen featuring Walter Kirn and the film adaption of his UP IN THE AIR is a must-see. The event will happen at the Stateside at the Paramount in downtown Austin, April 19th, beginning at 6:30pm with a book signing, followed by a screening of UP IN THE AIR, which will then be followed by a conversation between Walter Kirn and Evan Smith about literature, film, all things hilarious and heartbreaking.
